Yesterday morning Tabitha and I drove 20 minutes into Annapolis so that we could have a free trial session at 'My Gym' (www.my-gym.com). This isn't a gym for me but a children's fitness center.....don't worry, I'm not cracking the whip and putting Tabby on the treadmill just yet, it's an activity and play center for babies and toddlers. The class that Tabby signed up for is called 'Tiny Tykes' and is for babies who are aged 7 to 13 months. The 45 minute session consisted of stretches, singing songs, free play and exploration amongst the apparatus, independent play, puppet shows and focussed activities on particular motor skills, balance and agility. The two girls who were leading the session were oozing with big smiles and enthusiasm and kept a fast pace so that the babies didn't get bored and despondent. I had great confidence that they knew what they were doing and that the session had been properly thought out and planned.
Tabitha appeared to really enjoy her time at Tiny Tykes and was very, very excited. She has so much energy at the moment and is desperately trying to crawl, so it was great to have a big, safe space where she could just go for it! As well as the weekly class, we can go to the 'free play' sessions that are held there most days. In essence we can turn up and play on the equipment in the cool, air conditioned studio.....perfect for boat dwellers and a wannabe crawler!
